In today’s episode of IT in Plain English, Tammy Ven Dange answers, “Does it matter which Microsoft 365 license we buy?“
If your organisation is a Microsoft user, then you already have Microsoft 365 licenses. However, the question I always need to ask my clients is, “which ones?”
The reason why this is important is that Microsoft 365 Business Premium provides significantly more cybersecurity and IT administration tools than the Business Standard and Business Basic options. And therefore, if you’re not on the right license, you could be taking on more cybersecurity risks than necessary.
The caveat is that you or your outsourced IT providers must properly configure the various components and related policies to make this work.
Now Business Premium license is double the cost of the Business Standard license. However, if you are an eligible Not for Profit, you can get these licenses for significant discounts and sometimes for free.
Furthermore, I find that many organisations are already paying for some cybersecurity software anyway. So, the difference is switching to Business Premium is often minimal.
So, there you have it in plain English.
