In today’s episode of IT in Plain English, Tammy Ven Dange answers, “How do I create a digital strategy for my organisation?”
Digital Strategies or Digital Transformations have been quite the buzzwords lately in Not for Profits. And the reality is that the process for developing them is complicated, and as a result, I can’t fully answer this question in this segment. So, let’s just start with your first step which is: first, become really clear about your objectives for the strategy.
For Digital Strategies, I usually divide these objectives into four focus areas:
- Customer;
- Operations;
- Innovations; and
- Data.
So, if your strategy is focused on the Customer (this may be a donor, member, or client), are we trying to improve their user experience through digital channels? Or are we hoping to increase revenue? Or is the objective to increase the number of people you support with your mission?
Now, if the focus is on Operations, are you trying to reduce costs? Perhaps you’re trying to reduce manual processes? Or even improve your employee and volunteer experience?
In reality, you may have a few of these objectives. But you would be surprised how often I’m asked to help with a strategy, and this first step is unclear. So, just start there, and I guarantee you’re more likely to get something useful out of this complex process.
So, there you have it in plain English.
