In today’s episode of IT in Plain English, Tammy Ven Dange answers, “What is AI or Artificial Intelligence?

AI or Artificial intelligence refers to the ability of computers or machines to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence. This can include things like understanding natural language, recognising images or speech, and making decisions based on data.

AI can be used in a wide range of applications, such as:

  • self-driving cars,
  • personal assistants, and
  • medical diagnosis systems.

In simple terms, it’s the ability of machines to think and learn like humans.

One of the most talked about AI solutions lately is ChatGPT, developed by Open AI, and partially funded by companies like Microsoft. Its ability to quickly answer questions like a human… is well…remarkably like a human.

In fact, just for fun, the first part of this script was written by ChatGPT word for word.

While AI tools like ChatGPT could make some tasks easier, it’s important to remember that it’s still just a program that is answering questions based on the information it’s fed. This means that it may actually provide wrong answers and show prejudice or biases, just like some humans.

So, there you have it in plain English.
