Hello!
Here’s your brief of the people, ideas and technology I’m exploring for Not for Profit leaders.
In the US, today is Thanksgiving (my favourite holiday of the year). I moved to Australia over twenty years ago, and as an expression of thanksgiving, I want to share how grateful I am for the beautiful people, life and opportunities I have had since I moved here.
Thanks to you, my newsletter subscribers, for being a part of it.
In this Edition: You’re exposing your NFP to unnecessary cybersecurity risks if your MSP isn’t doing this, Charity fined for destroying personal records and…More!
What I’m thinking about:
- Unnecessary Cybersecurity Risks – Almost all Not for Profits outsource their IT support to Managed Service Providers (MSPs). However, from my experience of reviewing organisations’ IT infrastructure and systems, too many of you are exposing yourself to unnecessary cybersecurity risks by not buying more of their services.
What I’m reading:
- Charity fined following destruction of irreplaceable personal records – Many charities have a difficult document management responsibility to hold client records forever. In this case, it’s a reminder that information management policies are incredibly important, and not all records should be part of a deletion policy despite potential storage constraints.
- You’re Sharing Too Much on Social Media—and Scammers Love It. The number of call and text message phishing attacks in the NFP sector is also increasing, thanks to oversharing even on LinkedIn.
- Advocacy groups urge parents to avoid AI toys this holiday season – It’s hard enough to take addictive digital devices away from your pre-teen. “Let’s start them earlier with potentially harmful AI functions,” say the toy companies. Ugh!
- Anglicare pulls out of the NDIS program, which supports 89 people in southern WA. With charity providers closing their services due to financially unsustainable pricing and the broken supporting government systems, the program is in a fragile state for those who need it most.
Learning opportunities:
- AI Adoption Strategy “Live” Workshop for Not for Profits – Sydney (9 December) or Melbourne (10 December) – Enrolment closes on 3 December!
