A new kind of AI notetaker risk, the latest cybersecurity breaches… and More!

Executive with a Cause

Happy New Year!

Here’s your brief of the people, ideas and technology I’m exploring for Not for Profit leaders.

In this Edition: Risks from the speed of IT change, a new kind of AI notetaker, the latest cybersecurity breaches… and More!

What I’m thinking about:

Speed of IT Change

I subscribe to dozens of newsletters and periodicals and attend a ridiculous number of conferences and webinars to keep up with changes that could impact my Not for Profit clients.  While it’s my role to sift through all this information, in reality, most of it is just noise with very little relevance.

So, how can you keep up with the changes with your limited time? Here are some ideas.

New Concerning AI Notetaker

There’s a new kind of AI notetaker on the market, and they will NOT show up as a bot this time.  Granola.ai allows users to take notes in meetings by simply listening to the video call without anyone else knowing.

Furthermore, they use a company called AssemblyAI to process the data, which has some troubling reuse of data rules that a Granola customer cannot control directly.

There’s no technical fix to prevent 3rd parties from using these kind of tools in your meetings. So, my only suggestions are to block its use in your org and to ask at the start of any sensitive meetings for people to declare if they are using such tools. And if you are really concerned, make them sign an NDA that requires full disclosure of AI tool usage in advance of use.
